What Really Goes Into a Snow Jacket? | Chapter 2: Craft, Structure & Function

In Chapter 1, we explored the core elements behind a snow jacket — including design philosophy, technical fabrics, and pattern construction.

In this chapter, we dive deeper into the craftsmanship, accessories, and functional features that define a truly professional snow jacket.

Accessories & Trims: Small Details That Make a Big Difference

When it comes to building a professional snow jacket, great design and premium fabric are only the beginning. High-performance accessories and trims play an equally essential role, ensuring the jacket performs reliably in unpredictable winter conditions.

YKK® Waterguard Zippers

Because snow environments involve wind, moisture, and extreme temperature changes, every zipper on a snow jacket must meet high durability standards.
All UZSQUARE snow jackets — from the main front zipper to the smallest lift-pass pocket — feature YKK® Waterguard zippers for dependable, weather-tight performance.

The main front zipper uses a YKK® double-slider Waterguard resin structure, allowing riders to open the jacket from the top or bottom for greater comfort and ventilation.

Cohaesive® Embedded Cord Lock System

For hood adjustments, UZSQUARE relies on the Cohaesive® Garment Technology system, chosen for its precision, durability, and smooth operation in harsh weather.

Unlike traditional drawcord systems that require eyelets, stitching, and extra seam taping, the Cohaesive® adjuster is fully embedded with a specialized adhesive, forming a seamless waterproof bond with the fabric.

The result is a highly durable, one-hand-operable adjustment system that works effortlessly — even while wearing thick gloves in snow and wind.

Functional Details That Define a True Snow Jacket

Hood Design: Wind & Snow Compatibility

Snowboarders and skiers often notice that snow jackets feature oversized hoods. This is due to the Wind & Snow Hood Compatibility System, a critical safety design for severe conditions.

MAJOR Snow Jacket

On standard shell jackets, tightening the hood restricts movement, causing the brim to block peripheral vision — a potential safety risk on the slopes.

On a professional snow jacket:

  • The oversized hood fits securely over a helmet

  • Paired with the Cohaesive® system, it maintains stability in strong winds

  • It moves naturally with the rider’s head

  • The reinforced brim prevents melting snow from dripping onto goggles or the helmet

Ventilation Zippers: Managing Heat During High Activity

Snowboarding and skiing generate significant body heat — even in subzero temperatures.
To prevent overheating, UZSQUARE snow jackets include ventilation zippers under the armpits and crotch.

These vents feature:

  • Elastic mesh that blocks snow entry

  • High-breathability mesh fabric allowing hot air to escape quickly

This keeps the body comfortable and dry during long, high-intensity sessions on the mountain.

Detachable Powder Skirt

Falls are part of every rider’s journey — beginner or advanced. A powder skirt prevents snow from entering the jacket through the hem or pants during a tumble.

Understanding that some riders prefer less restriction, UZSQUARE designed a detachable powder skirt, offering flexibility for different riding styles and preferences.

Comfortable Fleece-Lined Collar

Snow jackets often have higher and wider collars than regular shell jackets. When zipped fully, the collar may rub against the face, mouth, or chin.

To enhance comfort, UZSQUARE placed soft fleece lining on both the front and back interior of the collar — making every touch warm and gentle.

Craftsmanship: The True Soul of a Snow Jacket

Even with premium materials and advanced trims, a snow jacket’s true quality depends on its craftsmanship.
And among all construction details, seam taping is one of the most critical.

Why Seam Taping Matters

No matter how waterproof a fabric is, every needle hole from stitching creates a potential leak. Seam taping seals these holes to keep water out.

Precision Taping for Long-Lasting Performance

Motivated by the pursuit of ultra-light performance, the UZSQUARE design team initially experimented with 8mm ultra-narrow seam tape.
However, during prototype development, significant puckering appeared and could not be resolved — even after adjusting temperature, pressure, and tape type.

To uphold durability and functionality, the team opted for the standard 20mm seam tape recommended for eVent® fabrics.
This choice may seem less flashy, but it provides:

  • Greater reliability

  • More consistent waterproof protection

  • A longer-lasting, higher-quality finished product

Delivering a snow jacket we can stand behind is a responsibility we take seriously.

Toward a New Outdoor Aesthetic

Guided by a professional yet fashion-forward approach, UZSQUARE seeks to merge technical performance with modern design.

By breaking away from traditional outdoor silhouettes and embracing a clean, contemporary aesthetic, we aim to create snow gear that is not only highly functional but also uniquely stylish.

Our mission is simple:
to deliver the best possible snow jackets to riders who live for the mountains.
